Being nationalistic does not just mean speaking faithfully your native tongue or native language fluently even to the point of using this in your official business dealings.  Being nationalistic does not just mean patronizing the local products and services and foregoing the foreign produced products and services.
Being nationalistic does not just mean living the values and principles taught by your nation’s forefathers and applying it in your daily lives.  Being nationalistic also means wearing with pride the national costume especially in front of foreigners and other people.
By extension and this is especially true nowadays because of the popularity of the sport of soccer, being nationalistic also means wearing your national team’s soccer jerseys.  By having to wear that uniform on your back you are declaring full support for your national team’s effort and sacrifices to be the best in the world when it comes to the sport of soccer.
A fine example would be the Bundesliga uniforms of the Germans as well as the Manchester United uniforms of the English.  The design as well as the color combinations employed tells of the cultural roots where the soccer team comes from.
It can show to the whole world the best of what their country can offer.  Teams wearing the national color have the added responsibility and privilege of being a role model for everyone whether they are young or old.  They should not disrespect their uniform by doing some unethical acts and behavior.  Whatever they do positively or negatively it has a corresponding effect on the country that they represent.
In Mexico for example, people wearing the Mexico soccer uniforms should see to it that they do only what is considered good and best so that the other people or citizens of other nations can only look in great admiration to the qualities of the people of Mexico.
It now becomes apparent that when one wears soccer jerseys, the person automatically imbibes the good qualities of that soccer team.  So when one wants to be seen as good and excellent one just has to wear Calcio soccer uniforms so that the greatness can also be transferred to them.
When this aspect of nationalism and good values is apparent to the spectators when they wear their national soccer jerseys imagine what effect this has on the players themselves.  They are the athletes who have sacrificed so much just to be included in the pool of national athletes who will represent their country in the soccer competition.
The feeling is very much the same as with the spectators only much intense by several degrees because whatever they do would ultimately reflect back on them because they are the ones doing the actual playing.
Thus, when their team wins a game they get all the credits and the accolades from the adoring public.  The national players and athletes are the talk of the town for several weeks.  They can become instant heroes uplifting the sagging morale of the whole country.  At this juncture they can literally become the savior of national pride and honor.
But consider the fact that when the team loses especially for a very important game, the whole country of course would mourn and would tell the players and athletes that they have done their best and that they have fought gallantly till the end.
But deep inside in every citizen and especially every player hearts they have failed their country.  Most people would abandon them and would eventually forget them over time.  That is the sad fact that they must all face if ever they would lose.
However, the important thing in this aspect is that we must all learn to rise from the challenge and try again next time.  As one sage says, “It is not important on how many times you have failed but on the number of times you attempted to get up and try again!”
And that is the beauty of these soccer jerseys, they can bring out the best in everybody, that no matter what, their team should always fight till the end until all is exhausted.  And only then can they truly say that they have tried their very best to bring honor to their country.
